Okay, I have to admit that I catch many shows lately. The latest was District 9 which I just came back from cinema.
So the poster says it all, District 9 basically focuses on Aliens - looks like Independence Day kind of movie but it is far beyond what you are expecting. It seems like the Director uses some kind of an old or low range video camera to shoot this film to make it looks like real life documentary. Well, the camera shooting style will not be much different like Cloverfield, if you still remember it. But it's not as shaky as it was in Cloverfield. Rest assured that you will at least enjoy the scenes here.
In anyways it looks, this movie is going to change your perspective towards how alien looks like. It will no longer be what you had in mind - big head with big eyes and smaller size body kind. Everyone will address them as "prawns" in this film, because they really looks like one, which managed to LOL me. There are some illogical sense takes place in this film where I don't really know how the human could understand what alien speaks, they talks with "kilikulu" but somehow human can understand, same goes to alien able to understand English as well.
The part I like the most is when Wikus (the main character) who was infested by Alien, in order to protect himself, he got into a Starcraft like - Terran's Goliath mercenary, which is absolutely cool! :D Well.. for not revealing much spoiler, this is worth a catch although the beginning of this film is quite boring. But the plot is good, it portrait how cold-blooded our humans are for not leaving the aliens alone when they just want to find their way back home.

That new lead actor they found for District 9 did an amazing job i thought - huge character transition through the course of the movie; sometimes it's nice to see some new faces and that was definitely the case with this movie

Well, I totally agree with you that the lead actor did quite an amazing job judging that he's quite new to be an actor. He has been Director, Producer & Writer once for a movie call Spoon (2008) with quite a success too. This guy is very talented in every aspect. :)
